JOB TITLE: Family Services Coordinator

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:  The PROP Shop of Eden Prairie

The PROP Shop of Eden Prairie is a nonprofit organization serving low-income families with clothing, household goods, and furniture by collecting donations from the community and operating a resale store. The PROP Shop has a small staff working with over 100 volunteers a week and is seeking a new member of its team to help it grow.

Wage Category: $23-$25/hour, non-exempt, temporary 90 day-to-hire, 20-30 hours/week

We need your energy and reliability to meet the needs of a growing organization. You will manage the social services program needs of the organization and will help with donation processing. We are looking for a self-starter who is willing to work hard with a great team.

Primary Duties: 

  1. Family Services and Family Services Room Maintenance
  • Assist PROP Shop families with their needs and maintain client records.
  • Organize and sort large quantities of donations to maintain the Family Services area (including the supply of clothing, dishes, towels, bedding, etc.)
  • Give tours, assistance, and guidance to new clients as needed.
  • Train volunteers on Family Services procedures.
  • Coordinate the distribution of furniture donations to meet the needs of local families.
  1. Community relationships
  • Maintain relationships with other nonprofit, governmental, religious, and business organizations to provide referral information to PROP Shop clients.
  • Communicate with other agencies helping families in need to share information regarding our programs and maintain understanding of their services.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Job Specifications and Qualifications

  1. Prior experience in the nonprofit sector desired.
  2. Strong organizational skills including decision-making abilities for donation sorting.
  3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to refocus after interruptions.
  4. Computer literacy, experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access desired.
  5. Ability to independently plan and organize one’s own activities.
  6. Ability to problem-solve and maintain composure in a stressful environment.
  7. Willingness to learn and practice best practices in nonprofit volunteer management.
  8. Bilingual preferred; at a minimum, the ability to understand and to make one’s self understood to all Spanish speaking individuals.
  9. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  10. Flexible schedule availability, including some evenings and weekends.
